HIKING THE INCA TRAIL TO “HUCHUY QOSQO” (Full Day Tour)

Cusco

Huchuy Qosqo, is a small, but one of the most beautiful archaeological sites that offers us the wonderful Sacred Valley of the Incas. Located 50 km (31 miles) north of the city of Cusco, at an average altitude of 3,600 m.a.s.l. (11,800 ft) within the district and province of Calca.

The name comes from Quechua words, which means “small Cusco”, because of the architecture and urban organization that is similar to many Inca cities; being this place in pre-Hispanic times, a center of economic, administrative, political, religious and military power. The fact of being located at the top of the sacred valley, having a privileged view of the entire valley and the eastern chain of the Andes, makes this space is very special and at the same time one gets to imagine the military protection that could have had the capital of the Inca empire “Cusco”, since Huchuy Qosqo and Pisac, served as living frontiers located on the mountains and oriented towards the east or sunrise, where bordering and crossing the entire eastern chain, we go into the low jungle, where other civilizations developed as the Antis (rivals of the Quechuas). So these Inca citadels served as control points for the Quechuas, as well as strategic centers for the defense of the imperial capital, the Qosqo or Cusco.

Huchuy Qosqo, is composed of ceremonial enclosures, palaces, houses, barns, original pre-Hispanic roads, irrigation canals, agricultural terraces, retaining walls to prevent soil erosion, forts, viewpoints, astronomical areas and much more. According to the chronicles of Pedro Cieza de Leon, the citadel was ordered to be built by Wiracocha (eighth Inca and father of the Great Pachacutec).

Andina Amazónica Spiritual Excursions, takes you to know this magical dream place, hidden among the mountains, impossible to be seen from deep in the Sacred Valley, but at the same time from where you can appreciate the whole environment of the Sacred Valley. Walking is the only alternative to get to visit this beautiful archaeological center, since the only access to the place is via a pedestrian path paved at certain points, trails that were built in ancient times and today are used by the inhabitants of the area, as well as by explorers who come to this place on foot.

For those who like to take day hikes, with a medium degree of difficulty, but be surrounded by nature, mountains, lagoons, streams and other panoramic views typical of the Peruvian Andes, this is the option; it is also a destination that mixes cultural activities, archeology, adventure, nature and history. Andina Amazónica Spiritual Excursions, invites you to be part of this tour where you can find yourself again as it is a destination not yet visited by many tourists.
