SPIRITUAL TRAIL, HIKING DOWN TO “POCPOC WATERFALL” (Full Day Tour)

Chinchero - Poc Poc - Sacred Valley of the Incas (Cusco)

The experience of being in contact with nature, feeling the fresh breeze of the snowy peaks in the Andes, the aromas and perfumes that bring us the flowers watered along the way, the sun that illuminates the entire journey and the shade that embraces us and helps us to continue towards the crystalline waterfall that descends the mountains and refresh our spirit to renew and fill them with pure energy … are just some of the sensations and emotions that can bring you to be in contact with mother earth, a walk through the mountains, walking along original ancestral paths left by our ancestors the Incas. These are just some of the descriptions that do not do justice to the true essence of being and enjoying the space that connects the Andes and the Sacred Valley.

The hike is ideal for all types of people, whether they are groups of friends, families, couples or individuals. The level of trekking is gentle to moderate, being one of the best downhill treks from 3,762 m.a.s.l. (12,342 ft) to the town of Urquillos in the Sacred Valley of the Incas at an average of 2,980 m.a.s.l. (9,776 ft). To make the hike, it is necessary to travel from the city of Cusco by car for about an hour and reach the town of Chinchero (district of the province of Urubamba), where you can visit the town and walk through the typical ancestral and colonial streets.

Chinchero is characterized for being the cradle of the weavers who maintain the traditional pre-Columbian techniques for the elaboration of shawls and other clothing and decorative garments with fiber from South American camelids such as alpaca and llama; as well as Chinchero is one of the very few populations where even the expert weavers, dye the wool fibers with natural pigments from mother earth.

On the excursion, after visiting the weavers and visiting the village, we start the hike to the famous waterfall of Poc Poc located 3km (1.86 miles) from the town of Chinchero, crossing through the archaeological park of the same town of Chinchero, appreciating the stonework and Inca architecture of the whole set. After the explanation of the guide and nourished with the information of the place, we begin the walk down an average of 1 hour and a half to the waterfall, a waterfall of about 35mts approximately (114ft), we will pass through fields of very picturesque crops, appreciating crops of potatoes, tubers, beans, among others.

Arriving at the waterfall, we will take enough time to rest, take pictures and videos, enjoy the cool waters of the waterfall and eat snacks, with the only company of the sounds of nature.

Then we continue the hike towards the sacred valley, along the way we can enjoy fantastic panoramic views, since the trail is picturesque and on the way we can enjoy the vegetation and find different viewpoints for photographic shots and observe the sacred valley in the distance.
